Zanzibar’s Minister resigns as the government forms Commission on the MV Skagit

The Minister for Infrastructure and Communication in Zanzibar, Hamad Rashid Hamad has resigned his position following the MV Skagit tragedy happened last Wednesday near Chumbe Island when the ferry was in daily rout from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar.

The Zanzibar Minister for Infrastructure and Communications Hamad Rashid Hamad, who has resigned after MV Skagit tragedy.

The information from near sources report that the Minister had written a letter to the President informing about his decision to step down from his position.

The President of Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Dr Ally Mohammed Shein accepted his resignation and appointed CUF-Ziwani MP, Rashid Seif Suleiman to be a new Minister for Infrastructure and Communication in Zanzibar.

At the same time, Second Vice President of Zanzibar, Ambassador Seif Ali Iddi has said the government is forming the Commission which will investigate on source of the MV Skagit tragedy happened on 18Th, July.

Speaking to journalists in Zanzibar, the Vice said the Commission will also propose on the kind of boats which the government has to invest in in order to ensure passengers safety in future.

MV Skagit tragedy is reported to have cost the lives of 145 people due to the fact that only 145 people were rescued alive during the accident.
